More and more people are starting to realize the effect of various chemicals found in cosmetics and skin care items on both the body and the planet. Even the companies that make these preservative laden products are trying to minimize the amount of non-natural ingredients and play up their green solutions. Many of these companies are actually trying to just trick consumers into buying their products with their greenwashing campaigns.
If you’re truly concerned and can’t find what you need for problem acne, it’s important to realize that you probably already have everything you need to solve it in your very own kitchen. Companies have tricked us into thinking that we need to buy everything from them and that we can’t possibly make things ourselves anymore. It’s quite empowering when you realize that this simply isn’t true!
There are a few common items in the kitchen that can really help you come up with some great DIY acne solutions. Take vinegar for example. Everyone knows it’s a great household cleaner but who would think it could also help clean your skin? Try mixing equal parts of vinegar and purified water together. Then, dab the vinegar solution on your face with an organic cotton cotton ball and leaving it there for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing. If the smell really bugs you like it bugs me, use apple cider vinegar in place of white vinegar. This solution will help you reduce the redness and inflammation on your face that is sometimes associated with a major acne breakout.
Another great idea is to make a mask of honey and thinly grated apples. Mix it together into a thick paste using roughly equal amounts of each. Smooth the paste onto your face in upward strokes and leave on for 15-20 minutes. This one smells delicious and will harden slightly before it’s remove. Rinse well with warm water and voila!! Use this once or twice a week depending on how severe your break outs are.
Good luck DIY-ing. Remember that you don’t need all that stuff available to you at the drug store. You can have all natural, simple and homemade products that work better, are safe for the environment and for you!!
